Every project begins with the details.

Accurate proportions.

Careful materials.

Thoughtful construction.

The kind of work most people will never notice.

I enjoy that part.

Always have.

There is something satisfying about building things properly.

Knowing every piece has a purpose.

Knowing every decision contributes to the whole.

Even if nobody else ever sees it.

Over time, however, I've noticed a small change in the way I look at finished work.

Once the details are in place, I find myself stepping back.

Looking at the image as a whole.

Not to inspect it.

To enjoy it.

A little atmosphere.

A little grain.

A touch of softness.

Not enough to hide the work.

Just enough to let it breathe.

The details remain exactly where they should be.

They always will.

They're the foundation of everything.

But sometimes the most enjoyable part is no longer building the image.

It's simply spending a moment with it.

Perhaps that's why I find myself drawn to a little more abstraction these days.

Not instead of precision.

Alongside it.

One gives the image structure.

The other gives it character.

The work still begins with craftsmanship.

It always will.

And these days, I spend a little more time enjoying the view.
